Care centre offers outreach programme
St Luke’s Home at Castle Road, Mahon, Cork, is hosting a range of courses for the care of older people, which include accredited and non-accredited programmes aimed at enabling care-givers to provide an improved standard of care which “will enhance the lives of the recipients”.
The courses, many of which are FETAC level and meet the requirements of HIQA’s National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People, provide carers with the opportunity to improve their standard of operation and enhance the quality of life of all parties involved.
“Meeting the social, emotional and spiritual needs of older people is at the core of everything we do, and we wish to expand this ethos by providing courses that are accessible to all those in the caring space. The new Education Centre is the culmination of that dream, and is accessible to all,” its director, Bruce Pierce said.
“In line with our outreach policy, individual courses are also provided off site and are tailor-made to the requirements of the particular Care Centre, helping to meet diverse and fluctuating needs.
“It is important to provide a well-rounded service that is accessible to carers within the home and to those in the caring profession generally.”
The new 9,000 square foot state-of-the-art centre, which is located next to St Luke’s Home and Day Care Centre, houses five meeting rooms, with full audio visual capability and is also available for corporate seminars and meetings.
“We are encouraging the community to engage with us to explore ways that we can work together to enhance services to older people,” Mr Pierce said.
“While St Luke’s Home has established The St Luke’s Home Foundation to raise funds for this purpose, we are constantly working with the corporate sector who have been very generous in helping us reach our goal.”
