Weapons seized as gardaí attempt to ease feud
Knives, hammers, hatchets and machetes were recovered in an operation aimed at easing a Travellers’ feud.
One of the houses, it emerged, had been petrol bombed early yesterday.
Gardaí made no arrests but a file is being prepared for the DPP.
The weapons were discovered at a house on Mount St Josephs Avenue in Gurranabraher yesterday morning.
Earlier, Gardaí had obtained search warrants in relation to two houses in the area.
The house targeted in the petrol bomb attack had sustained several broken windows and exterior superficial damage.
It is understood that the incident had been connected to a dispute between Traveller families.
According to Superintendent Con Cadogan, two search warrants were executed by members of Gurranabraher and Cork City gardaí. Two houses were searched with the fire services in attendance.
The searches ended at 1pm and several men were interviewed.
“A number of items were seized including knives, hammer, hatchets, machetes and various implements,” said Supt Cadogan.
“We interviewed a number of people. No arrests have been made. This is a continuing investigation and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
