Judge shortage leads to cancellation of courts

A SHORTAGE of judges has led to the cancellation of a number of district courts in North Tipperary’s three main towns in November.

Judge shortage leads to cancellation of courts

Martin Hanton, chief clerk in Nenagh district court office, has given notice of some courts being cancelled in Roscrea, Nenagh and Thurles “due to the shortage of judges”.

Judge Mary Martin, the sitting judge in the area, has been on leave for a number of months, with roaming judges filling in for her.

However, the shortage has forced the Courts Service to cancel some sittings.

The Roscrea court sitting scheduled for November 3 has been cancelled and cases listed for that date have been adjourned to the sitting on December 12.

The sitting of the court in the town on November 9 has also been cancelled and is being added to the list for the sitting in Roscrea on December 14.

The sitting of Nenagh court on November 4 is also a casualty and cases on this date have been listed for the sitting in that town on November 25.

Cases for the sitting in Thurles on November 11 have been adjourned to the sitting in the town on November 22.

Persons in custody due to appear at Roscrea on November 3 and 9, and Nenagh on November 4 will be brought before Templemore court on November 10. Those in custody, due to appear at Thurles on November 11, will be brought before Nenagh court on November 17.
