Woman held after graveyard thefts

A ROMANIAN woman has been remanded in continuing custody charged with handling statues and ornaments stolen from graves at a Co Galway cemetery last August.

Crisa Rostas, aged 30, with a rental address at Loughgeorge, Claregalway, Co Galway, appeared in custody before Galway District Court yesterday. She is charged with five counts of handling the ornaments, knowing they were stolen from Lackagh cemetery which is just half a mile from her home, on October 4 last.

The woman had appeared at a special court sitting last week along with her husband, Marian Lingurar, aged 35, who faces the same charges.

He is in custody and will be appearing before Harristown District Court again on October 21.

In court yesterday, Insp Ernie White applied for a further remand in custody while awaiting the directions from the DPP.

Judge Mary Fahy remanded Rostas in custody to appear before the court again on October 26.

A 16-year-old boy who faces the same charges, was remanded on continuing bail to appear before the juvenile court in Galway on October 20 next.
