A BANGLADESHI Buddhist monk told the High Court yesterday he will face severe persecution if he is deported to his own country.

Counsel for Suman Barua, currently living in an accommodation centre in Cork, told Ms Justice Mary Irvine that Ireland is unique in Europe in not providing public hearings by failed refugees claiming subsidiary protection.

Judge Irvine granted Barua leave to serve short notice on the Justice Minister seeking on Monday to quash his refusal of subsidiary protection.
