Corkman hid knife in pants

Judge Aingil Ní Chondúin made the comment about Brian Cunningham, aged 30, of the Cork Simon Community, at Cork District Court yesterday following a number of outbursts by the defendant.

The judge said that looking at his previous record of over 100 convictions it appeared that no sooner than he was released from prison he was offending again.

“I don’t care what judgment you pass on me, just get on with the sentence, I don’t give a fuck what you do,” Cunningham said.

Judge Ní Chondúin imposed a three-month jail term on him for carrying the knife and for threatening behaviour, claiming: “He has a big mouth.”

Inspector Mary King said the incident occurred at 11.30pm on September 7 at Bridge Street, Cork, when Garda Matthew O’Mahony observed that the defendant had a knife in his pants.

Cunningham tried to prevent the garda seizing the knife and even tried to run from the scene.

Defence solicitor, Eddie Burke, said the gardaí would acknowledge that the defendant had also done a lot of good and that Cunningham had a great heart.
