FF crisis meeting to scupper Norris hopes of nomination

FIANNA FÁIL is expected to decide today against facilitating the entry of another independent candidate to the presidential race, despite a last-minute plea by Senator David Norris.

Mr Norris tried to speak with FF leader Micheál Martin last night to ask him to give the party’s 33 TDs and senators a “free vote” to aid the nomination of independents.

But Mr Martin is expected to pass a motion at today’s parliamentary party meeting stating that FF should stay out of the contest and concentrate on the 2014 local elections.
