Accused seeks to go on holiday

A WOMAN on a robbery charge asked for her bail conditions to be relaxed so that she could go to Majorca on holidays.

Accused seeks to go on holiday

Aishling Wall, aged 19, of 3 Glenvannig Drive, Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, is on a curfew to be home every night by 9pm and to remain there until 8am. She is also required to sign daily at a Garda station and stay out of Cork city except for medical and legal appointments.

Wall is accused of robbing Sharon Murphy of a handbag containing €25 and a mobile phone. She is also charged with robbing a set of keys from John Brown at the same date and place, April 7, on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork.

Solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher was previously appointed by Judge David Riordan to represent Wall on free legal aid.

Yesterday Mr Kelleher asked if bail conditions could be relaxed from September 10 to 17 as she was going on holidays.

The judge asked where she was going and Mr Kelleher said Majorca. The judge questioned why she could not afford to pay for her own solicitor but could afford to go to Majorca.

“Her mother is paying for the holiday,” Mr Kelleher said, to which the judge replied: “Isn’t it great to have relatives?”

The judge remarked: “I am concerned about the free legal aid. If I had discretion I might change it but the regulations do not allow it so I cannot go back on it.”

Judge Riordan acceded to Mr Kelleher’s application regarding the bail conditions allowing Wall to go on her holiday.

Wall was told to return to Cork District Court on September 28 for service of books of evidence.
