His arrival in the Mid-West has caused major concern for senior gardaí.
In the last eight years, he has based himself between homes in Holland, Belgium and Spain and is suspected of being a major player in the shipment of heroin into mainland Europe.
The man, who is in his 40s, has links to Limerick’s McCarthy-Dundon gang and has been implicated in a number of serious crimes committed by the gang.
Gardaí say he has links to some of Europe’s biggest heroin importers.
In recent weeks he turned up in a Co Limerick village and his movements are being monitored by gardaí.
He is described as highly intelligent.
Over the past 10 years, he has eluded authorities in this country, although he was questioned eight years ago in connection with a major feud crime in Limerick.
Meanwhile the seizure of €250,000 by gardaí in Limerick has been described as a major blow to the drugs trade in the Mid-West.
