Household tax will hurt less well-off, claims ICTU chief

A HOUSEHOLD tax will hit the less well-off hard and is unfair when applied equally to well-paid bankers and dole recipients, ICTU’s David Begg said.

The general secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions also said growth was needed in the economy and not continued cuts.

His comments came as tough-talking economist Colm McCarthy instead warned the Government to consider all budget options, including income tax hikes.
