‘Household charge’ to be brought in by January 1 but details undecided

PLANS for a household charge will be brought before Cabinet in the coming weeks but the amount and who might be exempt have yet to be decided.

Environment Minister Phil Hogan is understood to be considering setting the annual tax between €100 and €200, according to reports.

He will outline the charge to colleagues before ministers break for the summer, his spokeswoman confirmed last night.
