HSE apologises for baby death

THE HSE has apologised to the family of a baby who died from meningitis at Our Lady’s of Lourdes Hospital Louth Hospital, Drogheda.

Dean Patrick Kenny died aged 4 months at the hospital in July 2002. His family say they brought him to the hospital in the morning after a GP suspected he had meningitis, but he was sent home after he was examined by a doctor.

They say his condition worsened and they returned to the hospital that afternoon, when he died. They sued the HSE for mental distress.
