‘Unacceptable practices’ found at home for dementia patients

INDEPENDENT health watchdogs have uncovered unacceptable practices in relation to the accommodation of 28 mainly dementia patients at a north Clare nursing home.

In their first inspection of Ennistymon Nursing Home, Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) inspectors stated the physical environment presented a major challenge to the provider in complying with the regulations and the standards.

In response, the HSE-operated nursing home has moved to overhaul the home and a development control plan is to be submitted with HIQA next month.
