CLONMEL native John MacGabhann will be the next general secretary of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland.

The union’s executive yesterday ratified the appointment of the former English and Irish teacher at Tallaght Community School, who has been assistant general secretary since 2006 and a TUI official since 2003.

He will succeed Peter MacMenamin.
