Garda bitten by drunk teenage girl
The 13-year-old was part of a group teens drinking on Sheriff St, Dublin.
Details of the case were revealed at the Dublin Central joint policing committee, held in City Hall.
Superintendent Francis Clerkin, of Store St Garda Station, said they set up a surveillance operation after complaints by community activists in the Sheriff St/North Wall area that a man was selling alcohol to children from his home.
“We conducted surveillance to see if we could get sufficient information to go to court for a warrant for a search, but we couldn’t get enough information,” Supt Clerkin told the committee.
Two gardaí approached a group of teenagers who were drinking on the street.
When the gardaí tried to seize the alcohol and make an arrest, one garda was bitten. Between eight and 12 others, who had not been part of the group, intervened, preventing them from making the arrest.
Three people, two adults and the girl, were arrested.
Gardaí discovered that the girl had got her drink from the family home.
