€10m paid out in travel agent refunds since 2008

ALMOST €10 million has been paid to Irish consumers in the past three years over the collapse of travel agents.

Figures from the Commission for Aviation Regulation show 6,251 claims totalling €9,817,102 were paid between 2008 and 2010. Over 1,000 other claims were processed separately by the European Commission in relation to flying holidaymakers home after they were stranded abroad as well, as refunds from credit card companies.

Consumers received an average pay-out of just over €1,570 per claim.
