Vaccine offers hope in battle against bacterial meningitis

HUNDREDS of lives could be saved by a meningitis vaccine that has proven positive results for Ireland’s most common cause of bacterial meningitis.

The first vaccine against meningitis B, the strain of the disease against which there is no protection, could become available in Ireland within months.

It is likely to dramatically cut the toll of infants and children dying from the disease or struggling with lifelong disabilities.
