Child, 5, thrown from car in collision
The 5-year-old girl was rushed to Cork University Hospital following the accident at a crossroads near Kanturk last Sunday night.
Despite her injuries, gardaí say that the girl is in a stable condition in hospital and it is hoped that she will make a full recovery.
The girl was a back-seat passenger in a Toyota Corolla.
Her mother and another adult female were also in the car when it was involved in a collision with an Opel Vectra, which was being driven by a man in his early 40s.
None of the adults needed hospital treatment, but there were said to be badly shaken.
Inspector Declan O’Sullivan, who is leading the garda investigation, said the accident happened at Sally’s Cross at 7pm last Sunday.
He said the road was closed to traffic for a number of hours to enable Garda forensic collision investigators to carry out a thorough examination of the scene.
“We are appealing for anybody who witnessed the accident to contact us as soon as possible.
“We know there were a number of people in the general area at the time because there was a road bowling competition going on,” Inspector O’Sullivan said.
