Raider locks woman in shed as baby is left in house
The baby was not injured and was rescued after the mother managed to alert neighbours at her house in east Galway.
Gardaí have appealed for help in catching the culprit who confronted the woman in her house on Saturday morning.
The raider demanded money from her before locking her in a shed in her back garden.
Her baby was left inside the house as the raider searched it looking for money and valuables.
The woman’s husband and other two children were away from the house when the incident took place between 10.30am and 11.30am.
The masked man, who is described as being of average height and was wearing dark jeans and a dark-coloured jumper fled the scene with a small sum of money.
The mother managed to alert neighbours to her plight, who came to her assistance and raised the alarm.
“An incident room has been set up in Ballinasloe garda station to look into the incident,” said the garda spokesman.
“This will be subject to a full and thorough investigation. We are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call us,” the spokesman added.
