Sales of new cars up 16% on last year’s figures

CAR sales are continuing to improve in 2011, with the number of new cars registered last month up more than 16% on the same month last year.

Latest figures from the CSO show that there were 11,171 new cars licensed in April, compared with 9,599 in the same month last year, an increase of 16.4%.

Of these, 2,999 (26.8%) were petrol and 8,021 (71.68%) were diesel.
