Woman in ATM terror ordeal

A WOMAN was subjected to a terrifying ordeal at a train station in Limerick when a man hijacked her car at knifepoint, forcing her to drive to an ATM machine to withdraw cash.

The ordeal began at Colbert Station at around 9.30pm on Wednesday night.

The victim, who is in her late 20s, was told to drive to an ATM machine at Roxboro shopping centre and forced to withdraw several hundred euro in cash from her account.

The man eventually exited the car after forcing the woman to drive another distance.

It’s understood the entire ordeal lasted around 30 minutes and the victim, though not injured was “put in great fear” and traumatised by the experience.

“This was a terrifying ordeal,” a garda source said.

The suspect was arrested by gardaí shortly before lunchtime yesterday.

The 21-year-old is originally from the southside of Limerick city.

He was being held for questioning at Roxboro Garda Station last night under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
