Two Dundon brothers remanded in custody for another week

A bail application by John Dundon was halted last week when he hurled abuse at Judge Tom O’Donnell.

After the state objected to bail at the first hearing, John Dundon, 29 of Hyde Road, Limerick, shouted at gardaí and called the judge a “fucking clown”.

Judge O’Donnell described the outburst as appalling and adjourned the matter to yesterday.

Shane O’Callaghan BL, of Madden Finucane Solicitors, for John Dundon, yesterday informed the court that his client wished to have the application put back for a further week.

John Dundon, who is charged with threatening to kill a mother and daughter on April 3-4, was remanded in custody.

Mr O’Callaghan said that since the initial hearing two people connected to the accused had been threatened and he asked for a media “black out” on their identities.

Judge O’Donnell acceded to this request.

John Dundon’s brother, Wayne, 33, of Lenihan Avenue, whose bail application was turned down last week after gardaí objected, was due to appear on remand by prison video link at yesterday’s hearing.

Judge O’Donnell said there was a problem with the video link which could not be resolved.

Mr O’Callaghan applied for Wayne Dundon to be remanded for a week and asked that two people connected to him not be named in the media as they had been threatened since the first court appearance of the brothers a week ago.

Wayne Dundon is charged with threatening to kill a man on September 30 last.

Judge O’Donnell acceded to this application and remanded Wayne Dundon to Portlaoise Prison until April 27.

Judge O’Donnell directed that John Dundon be brought to court on April 27 for his bail application and that Wayne Dundon’s remand be dealt with via video link to Portlaoise prison.
