Royal wedding to be aired on big screen as part of festival
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s big day is to be broadcast live at the city’s Milk Market on April 29 as part of Limerick’s Riverfest 2011.
The four-day summer festival, worth an estimated €20 million to the local economy, kicks off with Fashion Friday and organisers have decided to incorporate the royal wedding into the festivities.
Riverfest has teamed up with style queen Celia Holman Lee and the Friday Flea in the Milk Market to showcase the best of local shopping with a fashion extravaganza featuring some of the city’s top boutiques.
“There used to a lovely tradition in Limerick that women would come into the city centre on Fridays, meet for a coffee and go shopping,” Ms Holman Lee explained.
“We’re hoping to revive this tradition by holding an event like Fashion Friday. And what a day to celebrate fashion with the royal wedding, we are all going to be dying to see what Kate Middleton will be wearing.”
Fashion Friday is a free event and two fashion shows will take place at 11.30am and 3pm.
Riverfest 2011 takes place from April 29-May 2 and this year thousands of rugby fans will also enjoy the festivities when they arrive in Limerick to watch Munster take on Harlequins in the Amlin Cup semi-final at Thomond Park Stadium.
Ireland’s largest Barbecue, a free live open-air rock concert and The Great Limerick Run are among the highlights.
