US PRESIDENT Barack Obama and the Queen of England could face serious security risks during their Irish visits unless the Government can find an extra €25 million for planning, surveillance and intelligence services.

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan has warned the trips could end in havoc unless resources are found to raise the protection on offer.

Speaking at the Garda Representative Association (GRA) conference, he said it was “unreasonable” to expect existing resources to stretch “for a security operation of the magnitude we are about to put in place”.
