Hard shoulder road dangers highlighted in campaign

THE Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the AA have launched a campaign on motorway safety, and in particular the dangers of pulling up in or walking along the hard shoulder.

To illustrate the dangers to anyone pulling up at the side of the motorway, the AA pointed to an accident which could easily have killed of one of its staff.

Last August, AA patrol member John McGuinness went out to help the occupants of BMW that had broken down on the hard shoulder of the motorway near Naas. To ensure their safety he transported all but the driver of the BMW into his own van.
