THERE is no silver bullet to increase passenger traffic at Shannon Airport and it will be a hard slog.

That is according to tourism expert Professor Jim Deegan of the Department of Economics at the University of Limerick (UL) who said there is no prospect of Shannon returning to the highs of 3.5 million passengers achieved though the Ryanair deal.

“The region is in serious trouble and the airport is critical to its growth.” he said.
