Law Ombudsman to be appointed

JUSTICE Minister Alan Shatter has said he intends to appoint a Legal Services Ombudsman to investigate complaints against solicitors and barristers.

The last Government passed a law in 2009 which established such an ombudsman for the first time, but never actually filled the position.

Mr Shatter, speaking about his roles as both Justice and Defence Minister, said he intended to make an appointment “in the not too distant future subject to conversations with my Cabinet colleagues”.
