WHAT an election campaign this is becoming — dominated by polls and debates, with all the key issues determined by the disastrous mistakes of the outgoing government.

Have we ever seen an election, for instance, where 90% or more of the people have their minds firmly made up about who they’re going to vote against, but so many people are still undecided about who they’re going to vote for? I’m guessing it’s that anxiety that has led to such large audiences for the televised debates we’ve had so far. And as usual in these things, presentation seems to matter more that the content or strategy in what the leaders are saying.

For instance, I never thought I’d be asked questions on the telly or the radio about the dress sense of the party leaders, as if there was some conspiracy about the fact that several of them had red ties.
