SINN Féin has pledged to end the public funding of private healthcare in Ireland and give patients a right to treatment under the Constitution.

The party is also proposing an end to the “top-heavy bureaucracy” in the Health Service Executive (HSE); a cap on consultant salaries; as well as the establishment of a health ombudsman.

Launching the party’s health plans yesterday, Sinn Féin’s health spokesman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin promised voters an end to the current two-tiered health system.
