Shooting incident an ‘awful tragedy’

THE shooting of a young man in Birr, Co Offaly, appears to have been an awful tragedy, gardaí believe.

Garda sources said the 24-year-old Polish national was shot while at the rear gate of a house occupied by Eamon Sutton, an elderly, single man.

Garda investigators have determined that the retired farmer fired from his legally-held shotgun at the man, hitting him in the right leg, late last Sunday night.
