Federation concern over foreign contractors

EXCHEQUER revenue is being lost and job creation stifled by the state’s failure to ensure foreign building contractors and workers are complying with the binding rates of pay on domestic firms, it has been claimed.

The Construction Industry Federation (CIF), whose members employ more than 100,000 people, said it was concerned at the “high visibility” of foreign contractors and workers on both private and state building projects here.

It wants the next government to create “a framework” to support construction jobs through a commitment to introduce fair payments legislation immediately after the formation of the next administration.
