AN Irishwoman living in Cairo said any stand-off today could result in “a bloodbath”.

Bridget Brosnan, originally from Co Kerry but who has been living in Cairo for 30 years, said she has barely slept in the past 10 days as the political situation has intensified.

Ms Brosnan said she had been trapped in her home and people in her local area were fearful and uncertain over what might occur today, dubbed Departure Day by Egyptians who want President Hosni Mubarak to step down.
