City council offers salt and grit to public

CORK city council followed the county council’s lead and is making grit and salt available to the public this weekend.

The supplies will be available at two depots — at the council’s former housing area office depot on Knocknaheeny Avenue, off Harbour View Road, and at its Roads South Depot at Ravenscourt, off the Skehard Road.

The supplies, which were available between 2pm and 5pm yesterday, will also be available between 10am and 4pm today and tomorrow.

A limited number of sandbags will be available at the depots but people should bring their own bags and containers, and need to fill the bags themselves. Shovels will be provided.

A council spokesman said supplies are subject to availability and the operation will be reviewed on Monday if the cold weather continues.

The county council is also making grit available from the following locations:

- Clonakilty (tel: [phone]) — Barryroe Co-Op; Lisavaird Co-Op; Ardfield Cemetery; Timoleague Chip Dump; Deasy Car Park, Clonakilty.

- Dunmanway (tel: [phone]) — Kilbarry Road, Dunmanway; Lisheenleigh, East of Gloun Cross; Coppeen; Randal Og Football Pitch.

- Schull (tel: [phone]) — Skeaghanore Chip Dump N71; Tennis Courts, Ballydehob; Schull Yard; Altar, Toormore; Turn of the Lakes, Toormore — Dunbeacon Road; and Goleen.

- Skibbereen (tel: [phone]) — Drinagh GAA, soccer pitch; Rosscarbery Church; Glandore Church; Baltimore; Cross Street, Castletownshend; Entrance to Skibbereen Sewage Scheme on bypass, and Hawthorn Creamery.
