Flatley rolls out to Fota in aid of sick children
The Lord of the Dance supremo has volunteered his time to aid the Cork City Hospitals’ Children’s Club, which has organised red carpet treatment for the children in the Georgian mansion which will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the occasion.
Next Thursday and Friday the children will be transported from CUH, the MUH, Cork Deaf Association, Edel House and St Gabriel’s in 14 vintage cars to Fota.
The cars include Flatley’s Rolls Royce, a Hummer and two stretch Limousines.
They will be escorted to Fota House by the gardaí, army and the Cork City fire brigade.
On arrival they will be greeted by Santa Claus, Mrs Claus and a host of elves who will give the children Christmas presents.
“You can’t imagine what an event like this can do for a child who has had a difficult year, due to either illness or circumstances,” Cork City Hospitals’ Children’s Club chairman John Looney said.
“All the Cork City Hospitals’ Children’s Club staff volunteer their time to make this a really special event and their enthusiasm and commitment to the club never wanes. This is our seventh Christmas event in Cork and we hope it will be a roaring success and one that children will treasure for a lifetime,” Mr Looney added.
Superintendent Con Cadogan said those involved in organising the event really appreciated Michael Flatley taking time out of his busy schedule to help entertain the children.
A host of Christmas characters will keep the children fed and entertained, while Red FM DJs will provide music.
Sign language communicator Trudy Murphy will enable children who are deaf to join in the fun and communicate with Santa.
A special playroom has been built inside Fota House where the children can draw, paint and send Christmas cards.
The Irish Examiner will provide each child with a framed photograph of their visit to Santa.
