Referendum on rights of child

WORK on the wording of the constitutional amendment on children’s rights is “nearly finished”, according to Minister for Children Barry Andrews.

Mr Andrews, in an pre-recorded interview to mark the 21st anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, said a constitutional referendum could be held as early as the first quarter of next year.

The interview is part of the Children’s Rights Alliance podcast series.

The alliance has begun collecting pledges from politicians to lend their support for holding a referendum to strengthen children’s rights in the Irish Constitution.
