Brave Saoirse, 5, arrives back home to continue fight

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD Kerry girl, who is battling the usually fatal Battens Disease, is being treated in Kerry General Hospital, Tralee after a number of difficult weeks in Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Dublin.

Saoirse Heffernan will spend the next few weeks under the care of paediatric consultant Dr Fergus Leahy and his medical team.

She was recently transferred by ambulance to the hospital, accompanied by a paediatric doctor and nurse and her parents, Tony and Mary Heffernan, from Keel, Co Kerry.
