From West Wing to Co Tipp
The star of iconic films such as Apocalypse Now, Wall Street and Badlands, along with the hugely popular The West Wing on TV more recently, Sheen will be filming in Tipperary in the coming weeks.
His latest movie, Stella Days, tells the story of a newly-arrived parish priest who wants to open a cinema in a small town in 1950s Ireland, but attracts the opposition of his bishop as well as and some locals who fear the effect of the outside influence on their way of life.
Crew members, including director Thaddeus O’Sullivan, have been seen around picturesque Fethard over the last month or so, selecting suitable locations for the shoot which is due to get under way next week.
O’Sullivan’s recent adaptation of Winston Churchill’s role in the second world war, Into the Storm starring Brendan Gleeson, won a host of awards.
Among the venues chosen for shooting are the famous McCarthy’s Bar, the Town Hall and Holy Trinity Church.
Meanwhile, casting will take place this week in Fethard for extras needed for some of the church and hall scenes.
Aspiring thespians as well as those out for fun have been advised to attend the ballroom today between 2pm and 8pm.
