X Factor hopes kept alive for Irish contenders as all three go through

IRELAND had the X Factor last night as the three Irish participants in the television talent competition all made it through to the next round.

X Factor hopes kept alive for Irish contenders as all three go through

Dublin supermarket check-out operator Mary Byrne continued her solo journey after the 50-year-old’s rendition of I Who Have Nothing put her through to the next round.

She has been warned by the judges she needs to perform a more modern song than the numbers she has belted out in the competition so far.

Rebecca Creighton, who is part of the girl group Belle Amie and also hails from Dublin, and Mullingar teen Niall Horan from boyband One Direction also made it through the elimination process.

However, there was no such luck for Louis Walsh-mentored John Adeleye who had his X Factor dream ended. The 30-year-old found himself in the bottom two alongside Cheryl Cole-mentored Treyc Cohen.

John sang Because Of You by Kelly Clarkson while Treyc chose One Night Only from Dreamgirls.

During Saturday’s “guilty pleasures” themed show Adeleye sang a version of Zoom by Fat Larry’s Band.

However, the on-stage dancers proved controversial, with Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell all claiming they were “distracting”.

Meanwhile Cohen unleashed her “rock chick” side, belting out Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love.

During last night’s elimination Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole both elected to put their performers through but both Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell decided they had heard enough from John.

Announcing his decision Cowell appeared to criticise Walsh’s earlier song choice for Adeleye.

“Look John, what’s been frustrating is the song last night really didn’t help you, we haven’t seen the you we saw at the first audition and looked after properly,” he said.

As the result was announced, host Dermot O’Leary turned to the former care-home worker and said: “You’ve been an absolute gentleman, such a great voice.”

The singer replied: “I’m going to go back to music. I’m going to go into a room and put some music down and I’m going to come out and tear it up.

“I’ll come back. John A has left the building.”

John Adeleye’s elimination leaves 11 acts still in with a chance of being declared X Factor 2010 champion.

During last night’s show, Canadian artist Michael Bublé sang his new tune Hollywood in front of the studio audience, revealing he had cut short his holiday to come and perform.

Cheryl Cole also took to the stage to showcase her new solo single Promise This from her latest album Messy Little Raindrops.
