A NETWORK of privately operated speed cameras will be rolled out by the middle of next month — but Gardaí claim it will not be a revenue-raising exercise.

The mobile units, operated by Listowel-based private contractor, GoSafe, will be located in more than 500 areas across the country and will be easily identifiable, according to gardaí.

From next month, vans parked on roadsides, with a clearly marked safety message, will become a more familiar sight throughout the country. The cameras will operate around the clock.
