Cliff-face graffiti mystifies locals

MYSTERY surrounds the origin and meaning of a colourful piece of graffiti which has turned up on Waterford’s famous Mount Misery.

Cliff-face graffiti mystifies locals

The multi-coloured creation, with the single word “Imagine”, has appeared on the cliff-face on the edge of the city on the Waterford/Kilkenny border.

Puzzled locals think it was sprayed onto the rocks close to the railway station at some point on Tuesday night.

While the word “Believe” was adopted by hurling supporters in the city as part of their mantra in the run-up to last year’s All Ireland hurling campaign, the message behind “Imagine” is a new one.

Speculation in the area suggested the bold message is designed to inspire entrepreneurs and business people in south Kilkenny and Waterford city.

Meanwhile, Imagine Arts Festival organisers in the city are denying they had anything to do with the art work.

“It’s not ours. But if it spurs interest in our 10-day long festival which begins this Friday and features over 80 events, all the better,” said Imagine’s festival director Ollie Breslin.

Imagine Arts Festival is celebrating its 8th year in the south-east, running from tomorrow until October 31.
