THERE were unconfirmed reports in Limerick last night that crime figure, Wayne Dundon, who returned to the city last week for his uncle’s funeral, has again departed for Turkey where he has been living for some months.

Extra Garda patrols had been put in place in the Ballinacurra Weston area after Dundon returned for the funeral of his uncle Patrick McCarthy.

Early last summer Wayne Dundon left Limerick with his wife and children and spent several months moving between England and Wales. He then moved to Kusadasi in Turkey.

A number of his close associates have been in custody for the last six months on charges which include extortion and threatening to kill.

A businessman who was threatened by some of those in custody is now getting around-the-clock Garda protection.

Sources at Limerick prison said there have been mounting tensions among the Dundon associates and prison officers had to intervene when a fight broke out among them.

It is believed that associates of the McCarthy Dundon gang have now taken control of a huge segment of the drugs trade on the north side of the city, the traditional stronghold of the rival Keane Collopy gang.
