Prince Albert in romantic mid-west stay
The prince, 52 and Ms Wittstock, 32, who became engaged last June, stayed in Dromoland Castle and drank at Durty Nellys pub at Bunratty.
While in the pub they mingled with Munster rugby fans who were celebrating after the Thomond Park victory over Ospreys last Saturday.
Sarah Ní Riain was with some French friends in Durty Nellys and they immediately recognised the prince and his fiancee, a former South African Olympic swimmer.
Ms Ní Riain said: “The couple were standing at the bar talking to a man in a Munster jersey and I don’t think he realised who they were. I recognised him from Hello! magazine. When word got around who they were the couple were very amicable and nobody bothered them. When we were leaving they were standing outside listening to the live music.”
Staff at Durty Nellys were informed that VIP guests were due shortly before the couple arrived.
The pub is used to celebs calling and past visitors include John Travolta, George Best, Kate Moss and Ronald Reagan Jnr.
