Failure to identify TB outbreak source a ‘disappointment’

EDUCATION Minister Mary Coughlan has described the failure to identify the source of an outbreak of TB in a Cork school as a “disappointment”.

The minister said yesterday she was happy with the work undertaken by the HSE to deal with the TB issue at Scoil Iósaf Naofa in Ballintemple, Cork, but added that it was a reminder to everyone that the disease is still present in Ireland.

Pupils of the Crab Lane school started their new term yesterday – a week after most other schools – because of the TB outbreak which saw 25 children contracting the illness.
