RTÉ’s Skippers show sails into complaint storm

THE International Transport Federation has lodged a formal complaint with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission over RTÉ’s Skippers programme.

The transport inspection body has made the complaint with the commission over what it sees as the failure to address the illegal practices which it claims are rife within the commercial fishing industry.

“We do not accept that the production standards for an ‘observational documentary series’ absolve a programme maker or broadcaster from applying their critical faculties and allows them to turn a blind eye to illegal practices,” said ITF inspector for Ireland Ken Fleming.
