Murphy vigil in Courtown

THE phones were hopping all day at Gorey Garda Station yesterday as rumours spread that rapist Larry Murphy had turned up in the nearby seaside resort of Courtown.

Up to 50 people mounted a vigil outhouse a house in Courtown amid fears that Murphy, who had been released from Arbour Hill prison eight days ago after serving 10½ of a 15-year-sentence, had taken up residence there.

The peaceful demonstration by residents from Courtown started around 9.30am and continued throughout the morning.
