THE expected loss of 1,000 health service jobs has been avoided after it was agreed at the Labour Relations Commission that HSE West management and unions will engage in local talks to make cost savings.

The HSE West is in deep financial trouble due to a potential end-of-year overspend of €127 million.

It had been widely publicised that management were considering not renewing up to 1,000 temporary staff contracts.
