THE brother of Larry Murphy has said he hopes no other woman ever suffers at the hands of the rapist.

Brother says family are under stress

Tommy Murphy said he had cut off all contact with his brother and he would not be welcome on his doorstep.

Speaking from his home town of Baltinglass, west Wicklow, Mr Murphy said the constant attention on his family had caused stress and worry.

“People have been coming to the door telling me to sell up, to get out of here and that I’m not wanted. People are coming asking ‘Is Larry here?’ and I tell them ‘No’.

“They ask me ‘where is he going to?’ and I tell them ‘I don’t know’. They say ‘of course you know, you’re Larry’s brother’.”

Mr Murphy said he had not spoken to his brother since 2005.

“I haven’t been in contact with Larry and I won’t be in contact with him. I will be making no contact with Larry. I don’t want any contact with Larry, I don’t want to see him.

“The rest of my family are just totally embarrassed by it. The people of Baltinglass are fearful, they just don’t know where they stand. Is he coming back? They don’t know what to believe.”

Mr Murphy said he thought the media attention would have “frightened” his brother. “I think there’s going to be a major watch for Larry to appear in Baltinglass and people are just going to be vigilant.

“I wouldn’t accept a call [from him], or for him to contact me in any way. I won’t be accepting him.”

Mr Murphy told RTÉ radio that he just wanted to get back to a normal and peaceful life.

“I want my kids to have peace, to be able to go out and play. My kids are here for the last five weeks. They’re prisoners in this house. I can’t let them out.”

He also said he was not worried for his brother’s safety.

“Larry Murphy chose to do what he did and it’s up to himself now where he goes or what he does. But all I can say is that no other woman has to suffer at the hands of Larry Murphy.”
