Teen held over explosives find

Christopher Keane, 18, with an address at Derrymore East, O’Callaghan’s Mills, Co Clare, was charged with possessing two petrol bombs with intent to damage a car in a way likely to endanger life. He was also charged under the Explosive Substances Act.

The offences are alleged to have occurred last Saturday at an address on the south side of Limerick where two petrol bombs were discovered.

At an earlier hearing at a special sitting of Ennis District Court on Monday, Garda Paul Crowley said it was alleged the “items” were found in proximity to the home of a state witness under 24-hour protection.

Judge Olann Kelleher at that hearing, refused an application for bail.

Judge Kelleher yesterday further remanded Keane in custody to Limerick District Court on August 25.
