AT a time when they are being bailed out by the state to the tune of tens of billions, both Bank of Ireland and Anglo Irish Bank have confirmed they, like AIB, are continuing to lavish expensive perks on employees.

Debt-laden Anglo Irish Bank revealed it was paying managers and assistant managers an allowance through payroll “for a club subscription associated with well-being, sport or fitness”.

While the bank would not comment on what the allowance was or how many people avail of it, it is understood the amount paid out to those who qualify worked out at almost €900 per employee.
