Tourist town to dazzle on TG4 showcase

DINGLE will hit TV screens as it hosts the popular TG4 programme Féilte featuring music, food and chat with well-known names and faces from the town.

Presenters Sinead Ní Loideáin and Síle Ní Bhraonáin find out why An Daingean keeps pulling in tourists in such massive numbers year in year out.

They will also learn how to cook the perfect prawn dish and catch up with the best local music from Aoife and Deirdre Granville.

Also featured in the programme is local journalist and broadcaster Jeaicí Mac Gearailt who will give an overview of the local economy of the Dingle peninsula while publican and restaurateur John Benny Moriarty explains the reasons why the town has become such a tourism success story.

Dingle’s creative talent will also be showcased on the TG4 show.

Chief among this talent is AnnÓg, founded in 2002 by professional actor Áine Moynihan to teach and foster theatrical skills through Irish among the young people of the Dingle Peninsula.

The group has since grown to include adult theatre group Ar Aghaidh and Áine will explain how her ultimate aim is to have a locally based professional theatre group working solely through the medium of Irish.

Along with a trip to award-winning Gorman’s restaurant and guesthouse, the show will also feature sean-nós singing from young talent Caoimhe Blennerhassett.

This year, Féilte has visited Gaoth Dobhair, Achill, Clifden, Kilkee and Dingle and will continue on its journey to Clonakilty, Dungarvan, Carlingford and Belfast.

The episode featuring Dingle goes out this Thursday at 8.30pm on TG4.
